Going back to more current stuff this time around. Trying something a little different and rolling out a little bit deeper to start off. Loving the 4AM intro tune by Cybass and Sol.ID. It's got this weird high hat that's sort of off-beat ... sounds strange, but lovely tune. Happy to finally have some released Will Miles! Greg Packer and Makoto teaming up; don't think it gets any more roller than that! Liking this mix a lot. Except for the glitch in the Mace tune. Sometimes Beatport has crap files.

Also, it's about that time for Tunes Of The Year discussion. Drum and Bass is really going strong again and a ton of great music is being produced right now. I feel like it's one of the strongest genres. Almost no where else (for example, Bassdrive) can you talk to a producer in a chat room and the producer is saying "I just finished this tune one hour ago" ... Even shit on the radio was produced 6-12 months previously. That's hotness. Anyway, my pick is Lenzman & Submorphics "Way Back When" followed closely by Bungle's "Nu Chance" (which happens to be on this mix). Can't help but smile when I here that shit. Sway!

Anyway, I'm doing some cool animations for our wedding invitations. They'll be done in a month or so. Right now I'm playing Mass Effect a lot. So far, it's amazing. Like a KOTOR on crack ... that's a good thing. Been getting ready to start the redesign of Typeoneerror (hell I haven't even updated my portfolio since Nov. '06!) So, haven't had much time to do music but here's a special crap mix and a silly dance mix :P

Had a blast with this one. Some of my favorite tunes of this year: "Tonight" (finally got it on wax!), "Safebuster", and Heist's amazing "Pinchers" (which I believe I heard a Will Miles remix of at one point that was even more bass-heavy!). Starts off kind of darker but really opens up liquid at "Green Eyes." Oh, yeah, had to throw in that Calibre tune (amazing that it was written in like 2003)...classic liquid.

And of course, the long awaited (for me at least, ha) Liquid Hacynth Vol 5 (this is a drum and bass mix). Electrosoul System's "One" is killing for me right now and I randomly found the Pieter K jem for $3 at a little record shop in Queen Anne. Young Ax's "In The Groove" ... instant classic.

(16) Electrosoul System - One*
(17) Pieter K - Saturnine*
(18) Silbrfish - White Noise

I just randomly went to BreakbeatScience.com and it is back up!!! It's been down for months. Seems like it's still fucked up, but this is promising.

Been a while, eh? Man, I've been so busy it's not even funny. And all my "free time" is spent playing video games. Ha. Been playing Okami, Odin Sphere, and God of War II (all amazing). Finished up Final Fantasy 12 as well (great; the series is back!). Anyway, doing some mixing again lately. Thought I'd throw up a few recordings (some great tracks!). A couple "summer vibe" drum and bass mixes I've mixed down in the last month. Mostly "liquid" style drum and bass (obviously, if you hate electronic music you won't like it). Enjoy. Also, don't sleep on the "Human Nature" Remix in the second mix. Amazing (Favorite tracks starred*).

Basically, you can hook up a laptop and manipulate mp3's like you would vinyl. I'm way more into this than getting my technics set up along side CD mixers. Plus it's made/represented by Rane, so it should be quality.

Took a trip down to Sacramento this past week to work at the main BKWLD office for a few days. Meeting everybody was great and I had a blast. While I was down there, we launched BKWLD's latest site; an redesign offering for California's Skiing Tourism Authority, visitcaliforniasnow.com. As usual, Jeff (BKWLD) was on point with the design, Dan (BKWLD) providing the lovely management, and myself on the flash animation and programming (little bit of PHP/DHTML and CSS on this guy for SEO). Muchas gracias to Greg and Michelle for letting me crash at their place when I had to stay an extra day [Note to future self: don't pack exactly the same amount of changes of clothes per traveling day]. Bukramento was rather flat, more-so than I expected. But the weather was great and I ate (and drank) well.

Been playing a lot of Final Fantasy 12 recently. I must say it's easily the best FF since 7 and could possibly (let's wait until the finish) be the best installment yet. I'm totally happy to be still playing at least 5-10 more PS2 games (which should be another year or so) before getting a PS3. I mean, seriously, fuck off.

Also, donno about you, but I still love drum and bass. And the Bassdrive archives are getting repopulated. I recommend Reflect on Location SixOneOh.

My lady recently came across Gmaps Pedometer, what the author Paul calls a "little hack" of the Google Maps app. Anyway, as a runner (and now biker), It's quite a useful tool - whether you're plotting a route (like my ride to work above), or revisiting that random run you just did. It also "counts calories" and shows an optional elevation chart (which, now living in Seattle, is stupid important). Not exactly pretty, but it gets the job done.

I also found another site powered by the Google Maps application called Bikely. This site allows users to plot their routes and leave little notes at key points along the trail for anyone who might follow. Pretty sweet ... had an idea of what my bike to work would be before I started.

The end of the first month of Seattle living brings some new work, some site updates, and me as a non-smoker again. That's right; I quit last Thursday so I'm on day four of this loveliness once again. Regarding the new work, I added three Flash Development pieces that I built for BKWLD over the last month: Ice-T and Ruben Studdard (both designed by the amazing Jeff Toll) and the Wet Paint Please Touch site (which Robert Reinhard and I developed and was designed by Greg at BKWLD and Creature Seattle).

I've been basically taking comps and programming them in Flash, and animating where necessary. Should be getting some design work soon, I hope. In the meantime, I created a new section for typeoneerror; the Flickr slideshow! The past few weekends, I wrote a simple AS class utilizing Flickr's wonderful API to handle grabbing my public photos and displaying simple XML information from my Flickr photos. I need to clean and comment the class, but I'll post it soon for your Flickr/Flash - ing pleasure.

Otherwise, I've been trying to get back into shape again. I rode 8 miles and ran 2 yesterday and biked the 6 to work today. Biking in this town rules but the hills can be f****** ludicrous. I have to get some photos of the Puget Sound and Mt. Rainier on the way in; pretty fucking amazing.

Well, we made it. Two weeks later and I've got internet set up at home and a little bit of free time to write (by the way, if you ever need help debugging a broken linksys router, I now know nearly everything about said purple box). The drive in the Buick was pretty amazing (if not slight boring): Cleveland, OH -> Chicago, IL -> Rapid City, SD (if you're counting, that's 1,000 miles in one day) -> Bozeman, MT -> Spokane, WA -> Seattle, WA. When you do these cross-country trips, you're supposed to stop and see some "cool stuff" along the way. Well, fuck that! We passed a lot of places right the fuck up ("Do you want to drive an extra two hours to see Mt. Rushmore? No? Yeah, me neither"). For the record, South Dakota is officially the most boring place on Earth. Except a thirty mile stretch of 90W which we dubbed the "Bunny Killing Machine:" about thirty miles of rabbit carcasses often in groups of 10+. Wyoming, while sparse, was beautiful; as was Montana. Living in a close knit community for so long, you sometimes forget just how massive the States are.

We got in after about five days of driving and had a day before I had to start my new job at BKWLD. The first week was hectic: getting used to mass amounts of vehicles (good drivers here though), getting confused about how to get on I-5 (what the fuck?), making the mistake of going to IKEA on a Sunday (an abortion), cleaning something like 7,245,901 dead bugs, bunnies, and butterflies (monarch stuck in the grille; an awful site) off of the Buick, etc. I settled in at work and Robert, my new boss, introduced me to the fantastic Pioneer Square, a old city 'hood loaded with great places to eat and hang out. I was also introduced to an amazing Apple Cinema HD display which has been nothing but pleasurable to use after working on 15" laptops and 15" flatscreens for the past month or so. The work has already been challenging (tight deadlines are sort of a new thing for me) but it's thoroughly enjoyable to work on "big client" projects with little to no technical restrictions.

Hopefully in the next week I'll get some info up here about the work I'm currently doing. Robert and I built recently a mini-site for Wet Paint ("Please Touch"), a shared painting application. Greg at BKWLD designed the canvas and Robert built some fucking amazing paint tools. I was responsible for building the interaction and the "save and share" system and figuring out a method for uploading and painting with local images in Flash (a thing I though not possible from previous attempts). After that, Mark at BKWLD created a sweet gallery tool for displaying the results of the shared painting, displaying each users contributions step-by-step.

In other news, I picked up my car today and was slightly perturbed by the removal of my amp from my trunk. The damn thing was bolted down; someone had simply cut the wires and removed the bolts and helped themselves to it. Fucking savages in this town. Anyway, never needed a good reason to buy new stereo equipment before.

Less than six days now until our more to Seattle! A new job, new home...you know a new website wasn't far behind. Anyway (drumroll), presenting...the new typeoneerror for 2006! There's a couple of new pieces in the portfolio with many more coming once we complete the drive from Cleveland to Seattle (looking at just about six days of driving...eek). Also, the piece descriptions haven't been updated as of yet, so some may sound weird.

This is version 3 of typeoneerror (this version I've dubbed version "hyperweb2.0") in the same amount of years. I wanted to make something that allowed for larger images and video (there's some in there now, but not much). For the time being, the blog will be straight html/css but will change to all flash once I have some free time in Seattle. You can also view version 2 still, it's just archived.

Have to start packing now so no internet for awhile, but I wanted to get something up before I get out of here. Oh yeah, Bengals 2-0, bitches.

After watching episode ten, the final installment of the now classic Yacht Rock series, I got heavily into finding some amazing Steely Dan tunes to listen to (and to add to my "car sick" mix I've been working on). To me, they've always been on that seventies classic rock tip, and I had never really heard any of their [sweet jesus that's] smooth music. Donald Fagen has always interested me in some strange way; I like his lyrics and I guess his voice is pretty nice. Plus one of my favorite music videos of all time is Snowbound, a neat little number featuring some kick-ass querky stop-motion animation. You should check it. If for some strange reason you like listening to "waiting-in-the-checkout-line-at-walmart" music, I suggest you check the following Steely Dan to start:

Time Out of Mind - Gaucho
Another song featured in Yacht Rock. Michael McDonald does some backups on this. I donno, I like the over-produced harmonizing a lot. Actually, turns out McDonald is touring with Steely Dan right now. I'm gonna have to go see this shit.

Hey Nineteen - Gaucho
"The Cuevo Gold, The Fine Columbian." 19 Year Olds, Dude. 19 year olds.

Peg - Aja
This song would be amazing if it wasn't called Peg or had anything to do with someone named Peg. Songs with someone's name are annoying. Especially "Peg." That's not a fucking name. The intro to this song was in one of the Yacht Rock episodes. More Michael McDonald backups.

Usually when I'm in one room and I hear my girlfriend scream in the kitchen, my immediate thought is "uh oh, silverfish." I usually don't think "fruit." What scared her, pictured above, is a half ripened Monsteras fruit. This "Mexican Breadfruit" looks intimidating (Think Iguana with delicious fruity center, or perhaps "Killer Croc"), it's appeal lessened by the fact that its ripening process involves shedding its leathery "scales" (kinda gross). But, wow, is the payoff worth it! Monsteras tastes like a banana, a pineapple, and a bit of mango in the same bite. Once ripened (takes a few days), Monsteras can be enjoyed as a tasty fruit snack, or in a fruit smootie. Make sure it's ripened because apparently, and unripened fruit will hurt your mouth (very acidic). I made a smoothie with Monsteras, Fresh Stawberries, Ice, and a spoon of Yogurt. I highly recommend it if you can find some. It's quite expensive and is native to Central America.
