As part of the development team responsible for the new 2k site, I was tasked with creating the flash assets. This included a home page feature module that handles photos, videos and swf files; a games page that makes dynamically creating custom flash file a snap (including video assets and photos for games); and a papervision based carousel that dynamically renders box art from flat graphics. The video player is a custom job that can be reused at any size, rendering the controls dependent on size.

Content is pulled from the database using ASRA (A Simple RESTful API) and parsed as XML in Flash. Papervision is used to create the 3D objects and position them in space when clicked.

WWE Rocker

Portfolio

Full portfolio entry »

WWE Rocker is a flash game created for the WWE Music Group and Columbia Records. Featuring wrestlers from the ECW show, the game pits you against them on 14 levels featuring each wrestlers’ entrance music. The object of the game is to time key-presses with the passing of the colored chairs over the “hit” point.

Besides the application as a whole, development included creating the game logic as well as the design of the effects and some audio production. The challenges in this project included figuring out an effective way to trap multiple key-presses at once without firing an event for each key and attempting to find workarounds for Firefox and Safari not notifying flash objects that they’ve lost keyboard focus (Event.DEACTIVATE does not work!) on Mac.

BKWLD created for Dragon a mini-site promoting their sunglasses with polarized lenses. The center-piece was a bit of agitprop, black and white "exploitation" film. XML was used as content to drive a highly animated, Flash/Actionscript 3.0 built application. Next up is Dragon’s main website!
