Crain’s Desktop News
2006
Crain’s Cleveland wanted a new way to drive traffic to their website, so they employed FORM in creating a RSS desktop news reader. Users download an installer and set it up locally, deciding which feeds they want to see and setting options such as how the news rotates, where the application is docked and the speed at which the news rotates. Each news item links directly to the news feed on the Crain’s website. A special content area enables Crain’s to pass special advertising or images of the latest Crain’s publication directly to the user.
The desktop reader was created in Flash 8 using screentime’s mProjector extension to program the desktop interactions. The design was intended to mimic the Crain’s website and was made in Photoshop.
