FORMbot
2005
The FORM Bot Builder was one of the first projects I did for FORM. They wanted an interactive “product demo” style piece, featuring flash animation as well as 3d design. We settled on doing a mini robot factory. The idea is to select a set of arms, set of legs and an engine for your ‘bot. Once put together, you give it a jolt and watch it walk. You can also click and drag the robot and view a “VR” type movie.
The robot parts and body were modeled in Maya 5 and each part rendered on a seperate alpha channel, enabling piecing it together in flash. Effects were applied to the renders using After Effects. After Effects was also used to create the lightning effect for starting up the bot. The interface was designed in Photoshop and redrawn and animated using Flash MX.
